Grab the entire family and Visit Ely Nevada for 3 days of fun at the oldest horse racing event in Nevada. \nA safe bet for a fabulously exciting time is the White Pine Horse Races in Ely\, NV.  This iconic event has been taking place since the 1920s and draws thousands of people from all over the country.  Featuring exciting\, live action racing of thoroughbreds and quarter horses; complete with pari-mutuel betting\, bar\, concessions and the County Fair. Post time 3 pm Fri.\, Aug. 16; and 1 pm Sat. & Sun.\, Aug. 17-18. Free admission on Friday. On Sat. & Sun. $5. See you at the Races! Located halfway between Las Vegas and Salt Lake City. \nOriginally organized in 1934\, the races were formed by local ranchers and business people in an effort to overcome the depression blues. Some of the people involved in the formation of the races were Bill Goodman\, Frank Calloway and Stan Draper. This group ran the races until 1937 when the county helped by forming a Fair Board. The first chairman of the board was Tom Bath\, a local business owner. A year later\, they would build a new race track and grandstand which is still in use. \nThe White Pine County Fair returns to the WPC fairground on August 19-21\, with all the fun of a county fair. SUMMARY:White Pine Bull Riding and Futurity
DESCRIPTION:The White Pine Bull Riding and Futurity is coming to the White Pine County Fair Grounds on August 1-3. Hosted by White Pine Productions and sanctioned by the High Desert Bucking Bull Association\, catch a glimpse at the future of professional Bull Riding stock. Futurity is how they score bulls for sale into the PBR\, PRCA\, and other professional bull riding organizations. Starting there will be Junior Futurity (1 yr old) and Futurity (2 yr old) classes will be scored with a dummy rider on their back and then starting again at 6 pm catch the full action when some of the most polished bull riders in the west help score the Derby (3 yr old) and Classic (4 yr old) class of bulls. Expect 70-100 bulls to be bucking throughout the days. There will be a cash bar at the arena. Tickets are $8/ regular $5/ military $20/ family. \nFrom the Event Organizer: \nDear Business Owner\, \nWhite Pine Productions will be presenting the second annual White Pine Bull Riding & Futurity. This event will take place June 20th\, 2020 at the White Pine County Fairgrounds Rodeo Arena. \nWe are planning on 6 Futurity classes this year; Yearlings (1 year-old-bulls)\, Jr. Futurity (2 year-old-bulls owned by contractors 18 and under. They must tie their own flank). The Yearlings and Futurity classes are bucked out with a dummy bull rope pulled on them and has a remote-control release. Derby class (3-year-old-bulls)\, Classic (4-year-old-bulls)\, & Maturity class (5-year-old-bulls and older). The Derby\, Classic\, and Maturity classes all have bull riders on them. The Bull riders are also competing for a check and buckle. \nWe are expecting 25 to 30 stock contractors with their families. Also\, bull riders will be coming to our community. They will be coming form all over the western United States. This year\, we are expecting between 70 to 100 bulls for this event. To put on this event\, we will have 6 judges\, bull fighters\, pick up men\, and approximately 20 helping personnel. We would like to give you the opportunity to be a part of our event through sponsorship. Last year was a big success for our community with approximately 400 spectators. This is our second year producing this event. \nSponsorship packages available this year. Please let us know as soon as possible if you are interested in any of these packages. Some of the sponsorship packages are limited\, so sign up soon. Board members will be out to visit soon. DESCRIPTION:Gymkhana is an equestrian event consisting of speed pattern racing and timed games for riders on horses. These events often emphasize children’s participation and may be organized by a recognized Pony Club or a 4-H club. In parts of the western United States\, this type of competition is usually called an “O-Mok-See” (also spelled “omoksee” or without hyphenation as “o mok see”) competition\, a term derived from a Native American phrase said to mean “games on horseback.” Very small events with little or no prize money\, designed for beginners or riders at a local level\, are sometimes called playdays. Gymkhana is the word used in most of the rest of the English-speaking world\, including the United Kingdom\, and both the east and west coasts of the United States. \n\n\n\nGymkhana includes timed speed events such as barrel racing\, pole bending\, keyhole race\, keg race (also known as “down and back”)\, flag racing\, and stake race. Some organizations include ride and run\, musical mats\, egg stomp\, $1 bill race or “ride a buck”\, and sack race. \nMost of these events are designed to display precise\, controlled actions and tight teamwork between horse and rider at speed\, and demonstrate many skills such as flying lead changes\, sliding stops and more. Most clubs offer a variety of classes for all ages and abilities of people\, allowing riders to compete at the speed level at which they are most capable and comfortable.
